RELATIONSHIP ANALYSIS

- COMMITMENT EXAMPLES - 1

In the previous lesson (see Relationship Analysis - Commitment), I mentioned that the type of aspect between one person's Jupiter and the other person's Saturn would define the type of committed relationship the couple would have.

The first type of aspect is the conjunction, which will be the subject of the present lesson.
The conjunction between one chart's Jupiter and the other chart's Saturn is the perfect union between happiness (Jupiter) and seriousness (Saturn), potentially bringing about a committed and fulfilling relationship.

The first example of a conjunction is the one occurring between Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward. Their marriage is one of the longest and happiest among famous couples - they have been married for 48 years.  The conjunction, as can be seen in the following comparison of the charts, has an orb of only 54 arc minutes. It is a very close conjunction indeed and occurs between Newman's Jupiter and Woodward's Saturn.

Another famous couple who enjoyed a happy marriage were Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall. They married in 1945 and stayed married until Bogart's death. It was his fourth marriage and the only happy one.
Bacall's Jupiter is conjunct Bogart's Saturn, the orb of the conjunction being 3 degrees and 7 arc minutes.
There is a also a second aspect going on between the two charts: Bogart's Jupiter is semi-sextile Bacall's Jupiter (orb: 51 minutes). As explained in the previous lesson, whenever there is a second aspect involving Jupiter and/or Saturn (using normal orbs), the orb of the main aspect may be doubled. Another way of saying the same thing is: the orb of a Jupiter-Saturn aspect occurring between two charts is considered as if it were closer (as if the orb were half of what it actually is) when there is also a second aspect between Jupiter and/or Saturn.
As the orb of the aspect between Jupiter in the two charts is 51 arc minutes (well within the 1 degree and 15 minutes nromally allowed for  a semi-sextile - see Aspects and Houses), the Jupiter-Saturn conjunction's orb of over 3 degrees acts as if it were a closer orb of just over 1.5  degrees.

Now let's have a look at what is going on in the heliocentric charts of a third famous couple, whose romance is perhaps the most famous of all: Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor were married twice. Their relationship was so intense that they couldn't be with nor without each other.
Her Saturn is conjunct his Jupiter with an orb of just over 1 degree. There is also a second aspect occurring between the charts: her Jupiter is square his Saturn, with an orb of just over 2 degrees.

You may think that the second aspect, the square between Jupiter and Saturn, is responsible for their two divorces, but this is not the case. The square, as we shall see in a future lesson, only added to the intensity of the commitment. There are other aspects, involving other planets, between the two charts which represent their problems.
